October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Wearing pink is important and what's more important is talking about and understanding the motive behind wearing pink. The month of October is breast cancer awareness month, and by wearing pink you are acknowledging your support and awareness to the 2.8 million women who have gone through breast cancer, you are also advocating for the importance of preventative methods to fight the disease. Wearing pink and seeing others wear pink should be a reminder to go to the doctor for a breast cancer screening or even a genetic test that helps you understand your chances and do something about it...a great example of this: http://getaheadofcancer.counsyl.com/
Breast cancer is not limited to women, but is less prevalent in men; 1 in 1000 men face breast cancer. Here are some other important statistics-
The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2015 are:
- About 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
- About 60,290 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
- About 40,290 women will die from breast cancer
So all of you ladies out there, please don't forget to get yourself checked and take the important steps to detect the disease in its early stages. Let's all wear pink to spread awareness and also to remind ourselves to be aware of and take care of our own health!
